How to Quickly Change Text Case Online

By Abid · August 10, 2026

Somebody has sent you a heading in capitals, or a list typed entirely in lowercase, and it needs fixing. Retyping it is wasted work. The Case Converter switches between uppercase, lowercase, title case and sentence case.

What each one is for

Sentence case capitalises the first letter and leaves the rest alone. It is the default for body text, and increasingly for headings too, because it reads faster than the alternatives.

Title Case capitalises the significant words. It is the convention for book and article titles in most style guides, and for headings in publications that have not moved to sentence case.

UPPERCASE is for short labels, abbreviations and the occasional button. A sentence in capitals is measurably slower to read, because the eye uses the shape of a word - its ascenders and descenders - and capitals flatten every word into the same rectangle. A paragraph in capitals is also read as shouting, which is rarely the intention.

lowercase is a style choice in branding and a practical one for data. Normalising a column to lowercase before comparing entries stops the same value counting twice.

The title-case rule everyone gets wrong

Title case does not capitalise every word. Articles, short conjunctions and short prepositions stay lowercase - a, an, the, and, but, or, for, nor, in, on, at, to, of - unless they are the first or last word of the title.

So it is "The Art of War", not "The Art Of War". And it is "A Day to Remember", with "to" lowercase because it is neither first nor last. Where guides disagree is on length: some lowercase every preposition, others capitalise anything of five letters or more. Pick one and apply it consistently, which matters far more than which you picked.

A converter cannot know your style guide, so always read the result. Proper nouns and acronyms in particular need checking, because a lowercase conversion will flatten iPhone, NASA and someone's surname without hesitating.

Where it saves real time

Headings pasted from a document in the wrong style. A column of names typed in capitals. Product titles from a supplier's spreadsheet. Normalising email addresses before de-duplicating a list with the Duplicate Line Remover, since Sam@example.com and sam@example.com are the same person.

Common questions

Will it ruin my acronyms?

Lowercase and sentence case will. Convert, then fix the handful of acronyms by eye - still much faster than retyping.

What is the difference between title case and capitalising each word?

Title case leaves the short words alone. Capitalising every word is a different, blunter thing, and looks it.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion happens in your browser.

Can I convert a whole document?

Paste it in. For code, use the Case Style Converter instead, which understands camelCase and snake_case.

Why did my conversion change a name?

Because a converter cannot tell a proper noun from an ordinary word. Sentence case and lowercase will both flatten a surname, so scan the result for names before using it.
