Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
AskATool ("we", "our" or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and safeguard information when you use our website and online tools.
1. Your files stay on your computer
Our tools run inside your own browser. When you open a PDF, an image or any other file in a tool on this site, that file is processed on your own device — it is not uploaded to our servers, not stored by us, and not seen by us or anyone else. You can disconnect from the internet after a tool page has loaded and most of our tools will still work.
If a tool ever needs to send data to a server to do its job, that will be stated clearly on the tool's own page.
2. Information we collect
- Visit information. We record the page visited, the time, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and a country and region derived from your IP address.
- Tool usage. We record which tools are opened and how often, so we can see what is useful and what needs attention. This is not linked to you personally.
- Contact information. If you write to us through the contact form, we collect your name, email address and message, solely in order to reply.
- Tool requests. If you request or support a tool, we store your request and a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address. The hash lets us count one vote per person; it cannot be turned back into your IP address.
3. How we use this information
- To provide and operate our free online tools
- To understand which tools are used, and which need improving
- To decide which tools to build next
- To reply to messages sent through our contact form
4. Cookies
We set one cookie, named tv_session. It contains a random identifier and no personal information, and it exists so that several page views in a single visit are not counted as several different visitors. It is a session cookie: it is deleted when you close your browser.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Nothing on this site will stop working if you do.
5. Third-party services
To show visitor statistics by country, your IP address is sent to a third-party geolocation service, which returns a country and region. No other information is shared with it.
Where advertising is shown on this site, it is served by Google AdSense, which may set its own cookies and use them to show relevant adverts. This is governed by Google's own privacy policy rather than ours.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Information is shared only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect our legal rights.
7. Your rights
You may contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about you, or to ask that anything you have sent us — a message, a tool request — be deleted.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new revision date.
9. Contact us
If you have a question about this policy, please get in touch through our Contact page.
