About Us
AskATool is a growing collection of more than 200 free online tools — for PDFs, images, text, SEO, code, unit conversion, finance, health and a few things that exist purely because they are fun.
What we are trying to do
Most small jobs should not require an account, an install, or a subscription. Splitting a PDF, resizing a photo for Instagram, counting the words in a draft, working out a loan repayment — these take seconds, and the hard part is usually finding a tool that does the job without asking for your email first.
So every tool here is free, needs no sign-up, and opens straight away.
Why we think this matters
There is a growing habit of reaching for an AI assistant for things that never needed one — counting words, converting units, resizing an image, working out a percentage. It feels effortless, but it is not free. Every one of those questions travels to a data centre, where servers burn electricity to answer it and water is used to carry away the heat they produce.
A tool that runs in your browser uses none of that. It runs on the computer already in front of you, which is already switched on. Nothing travels anywhere, no server has to wake up, and no heat has to be cooled.
We are not against AI. It is remarkable at the things that genuinely need it. We just do not think counting words is one of them, and we would rather give you a button that does the job on your own machine.
Your files stay on your computer
Wherever it is technically possible, our tools run entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored on a server, and nothing is sent anywhere. That is not a promise we ask you to take on trust — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and most of these tools will still work.
Where the tools come from
Some were built because we needed them. Many were built because somebody asked. If the tool you need is not here, request it — we can see how many other people are asking for the same thing, and that is what decides what gets built next.
