How to Remove Unwanted Pages From a PDF

By Abid · August 10, 2026

Scanned documents collect junk. A blank back page that went through the feeder, a fax cover sheet from 2019, a duplicated sheet where the scanner grabbed two at once. The Delete PDF Pages tool takes them out and leaves everything else alone.

What usually needs removing

Blank pages are the common one - double-sided scanning produces them whenever a sheet is printed on one side only. After that it's cover sheets, outdated sections in a document that's been revised a few times, and pages that belong to somebody else's copy of a shared file.

There's a practical reason to bother beyond tidiness. Blank and duplicate pages inflate the file size, waste paper when someone prints it, and make the page numbers you quote in an email disagree with what the recipient is looking at.

How to remove pages

Open the tool, choose your PDF, and type the page numbers you want gone, separated by commas - 2,5,9 for example. The tool builds a new file with exactly those pages taken out and everything else untouched, in the same order.

Work from a list you've checked first. It's worth scrolling the document once and writing the numbers down, because page 5 means the fifth sheet in the file, which isn't always the sheet printed with a 5 on it.

A safeguard worth knowing about

The tool won't let you delete every page, since that would leave you with nothing. It's a small guard against a mistyped range, not a substitute for checking your list.

Check before you send, not after

The risk with deleting is not technical, it is clerical: removing the wrong page and not noticing. Two habits make it almost impossible.

First, list the numbers before you start rather than as you go. Scroll the document once, write down what should go, then type the list in one action - it is far easier to check a written list against a document than to remember what you intended three pages ago.

Second, open the result. The tool tells you how many pages came out, but only you know which ones should have. Thirty seconds of scrolling has saved a lot of people from sending a contract with a clause missing.

Common questions

Can I get the pages back after deleting them?

Not from the new file - but your original is untouched, so you still have everything. Keep it until you've checked the result.

What if I want to keep only a few pages?

Then you're extracting rather than deleting. The Split PDF tool builds a new document from a page range, which is far less typing than listing everything you don't want.

Does deleting pages make the file smaller?

Usually yes, and substantially so if the pages you removed were scans, since those carry the most data.

What happens to page numbers printed on the pages?

They stay as they were, so a document that was numbered will now skip. Renumber the result with the Add Page Numbers to PDF tool if that matters.
