When You Need to Repeat Text Multiple Times
Repeating a line a hundred times sounds like something nobody would want, and then you need to find out whether a table scrolls properly with two hundred rows in it. The Text Repeater repeats any text a set number of times.
Testing a layout
This is the honest main use. A design looks fine with three items in a list and breaks with thirty. A fixed-height panel that scrolls on your screen does not scroll on a phone. A table header that should stay put while the body moves cannot be tested with four rows.
Repeating a representative row until there are far more than the design expects is the quickest way to find the failure. For placeholder prose rather than a repeated line, the Lorem Ipsum Generator is the better choice, because real-looking paragraphs of varying length stress a layout in ways one repeated line does not.
Building test data
Repeating a row and then editing the copies is faster than typing each one, especially when the structure is fiddly. A hundred rows of a CSV with the same shape and different values starts as a hundred identical rows.
It is also how you find limits. How many characters does this field actually accept? What happens at ten thousand rows? Software that works with five records and fails at five thousand fails somewhere specific, and generating the volume is how you locate it.
Filling a template
A repeated block is often the starting point for anything with a regular structure: a list of placeholders you will fill in, a set of numbered sections, a grid. Repeat the empty block, then edit each one, rather than copying and pasting by hand and losing count.
Where it is the wrong answer
Three cases. Padding to reach a length - repeating text to hit a word count is obvious to any reader and any marker. Keyword repetition for search engines, which has been actively penalised for well over a decade and reads as spam to people as well. And anything where the repeats need to differ, which is a template with data rather than a repeated string.
Common questions
Can I put a line break between each copy?
That is usually what you want for a list, and running the result through the Whitespace Trimmer tidies up any extra blank lines left at the ends.
What is the limit?
Large counts work, but the browser has to hold the result in memory and the page has to render it. Tens of thousands of copies of a long string will be slow.
Will search engines penalise repeated text?
Repeated content aimed at ranking, yes. Repeated text used to test a page nobody will index, no - keep it out of anything published.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The repetition happens in your browser.
How do I number each copy?
The repeater produces identical copies. Numbering them is an editing step afterwards, or a job for a template.
